Agency & Multi-Account
Run content operations across multiple brands or client accounts from a single Techne login. This guide covers the account model, manager invitations, scoped access, billing, and how to switch contexts safely.
1. The account model in plain terms
Techne is built around three layers:
- Account — the organization. Owns billing, internal users, and workspaces.
- Workspace — a brand, department, or client living inside an account.
- Membership — the role a user holds on an account or workspace (owner, admin, editor, member, viewer).
One human can hold memberships in many accounts. The account switcher in the header makes that explicit, and the My Accounts page lists every account you own or manage in one place.
2. Owned vs. managed accounts
Every account you can access falls into one of two buckets:
Owned
Your organization
You created this account. Billing, plan, internal users, and workspaces are yours to manage. Most users have exactly one owned account.
Managed
A client's organization
You were invited as a manager into someone else's account. You can publish, configure integrations, and edit content according to your role — but you do not control their billing.
When you are inside a managed account, the header shows a "Managing: <account name>" badge so you always know whose context you are working in.
3. Inviting a manager into your account
If you want an agency, freelancer, or teammate to operate your account:
- Open Settings → Team.
- Invite by email and pick an account-level role:
- Owner — full control including billing. Only assign to people you trust at the same level as yourself.
- Admin — manage users, workspaces, and integrations. Cannot change billing.
- Member — scoped access to specific workspaces.
- Optionally scope the invitation to specific workspaces instead of all of them.
- The invitee receives an email and accepts at
/accept-invitation. They will see your account appear in their account switcher as a Managed account.
Removing a manager later is done from the same Team tab and revokes access immediately.
4. Operating as an agency across multiple clients
If you are the agency:
- Ask each client to invite your email into their account from Settings → Team, with the role you've agreed on (usually Admin).
- Once accepted, every client account appears in your My Accounts page.
- Use the account switcher in the header to jump between clients. Switching reloads workspace context so there is no risk of cross-posting.
- Inside each client account, configure their integrations, workspaces, and content independently.
Each client controls their own billing and credits. Your agency is never billed for work performed inside a managed account — those generations consume the client's plan.
5. Workspace-level roles
Inside any account, each workspace has its own role assignments. This lets you scope a freelancer to a single brand without exposing the rest:
- Owner / Admin — manage workspace settings, members, and publish.
- Editor — create, edit, and schedule content. Cannot manage members.
- Viewer — read and comment only. Always free.
Publishing actions (Webflow, WordPress, LinkedIn, X, Facebook, Pinterest) require editor or higher on the relevant workspace.
6. Billing across accounts
- Plans, credits, and Stripe subscriptions live on the account that owns the work.
- Generations performed inside a managed account draw from that account's credits, not yours.
- Adding internal seats or extra workspaces updates the owning account's subscription automatically.
- Viewer roles never count toward billing.
7. Switching context safely
Two visual cues prevent accidental cross-posting:
- The account switcher in the header shows the active account name.
- A "Managing: <client>" badge appears whenever you are inside a managed (not owned) account.
When you switch accounts, Techne resets the workspace selection and reloads so every subsequent action is unambiguously scoped.
